Cops attacked again, 2 held in Comilla

Police on Tuesday arrested two suspected extremists while they were trying to get away after launching an attack on police on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Kutumbopur under Chandian in Comilla.
They were identified as Jashim, 22, and Hasan, 24.
Hasan, son of the late Mohammad Hossain, is from village Shantirhat under Patia in Chittagong but details about Jashim could not be known immediately.
Police recovered four crude bombs and a sharp knife from their possessions.
According to Monirul Islam, in-charge of Iliyotganj highway police outpost, a team of highway police tried to stop a Dhaka-bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan at a check-post at Kutumbopur about 11:00am and but the bus ignored their signal.
As police, Monirul said, chased down and caught the bus, two youths getting down from it hurled a crude bomb at the police and tried to flee the scene.
The bomb, however, did not explode. Police detained the two youths by opening fire at them.
Both the youths received bullet injuries and were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital, the highway police officer said.
Police were investigating whether they had any involvement in extremist activities, he said. Senior police officials including superintendent of police of Comilla Rezaul Karim visited the spot.
On Monday, suspected militants hurled several bombs at a convoy of four prison vans, one of which carrying condemned Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (Huji) chief Mufti Abdul Hannan, at Tongi in Gazipur.
Police suspect the attack was carried out to snatch away the top militant.
