Hasina, Modi talks on April 8

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina would go to India on April 7 on a four-day state visit at the invitation of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.
The two prime ministers would hold official talks in New Delhi on April 8, said a joint announcement of the foreign ministries from the two capitals on Tuesday.
The visit ‘is expected to further expand the cordial and cooperative relationship’ between the two countries and build on the ‘strong ties of friendship and trust between the two leaders’, the announcement said.
Hasina is scheduled to call on Indian president Pranab Mukherjee. 
She would stay at Indian president Pranab Mukherjee’s official residence Rashtrapati Bhaban at his invitation, according to Indian high commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla. 
The Bangladesh government would put emphasis on signing an agreement on the sharing of Teesta River water, construction of Ganges Barrage with participation of India, completion of the implementation of the land boundary agreement and removal of anti-dumping duty on jute imposed by India, among several other issues, officials in Dhaka and New Delhi said. 
An interim agreement on Teesta water sharing was set to be signed on September 6, 2011 during former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Dhaka. It could not be signed because of to the last minute objection raised by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
India is pushing Bangladesh for signing several agreements, in the fields of defence ‘cooperation’ and military purchase under a line-of-suppliers-credit worth $500 million from Indian state-run producers, officials said.
The Indian government has also proposed several agreements likely to be implemented by its state-run Bharat Electronics Limited, specialised in avionics, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd, specialised in warship building, and Indian Navy.
India is also pursuing agreements for using Chittagong and Mongla seaports for carrying goods from western part of India to its eastern states using multimodal transport mechanism at a nominal fee, the officials said.
Officials of the two sides finalised about 20 drafts of agreements and memorandums of understanding, out of about 40 proposals from both sides in considerations, in different sectors. 
Bangladesh prime minister is also expected to start, during the visit, conferring honours on about 1,800 Indian soldiers who made supreme sacrifice in the in 1971 War for Independence. 
Hasina’s official visit to New Delhi was postponed twice in December 2016 and February 2017. 
Hasina’s last official India visit was in January 2010. 
Former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh was in Dhaka on an official visit in September, 2011. Incumbent Indian premier Modi visited Dhaka in June 2015.
