Khaleda’s arrest a matter of time: Quamrul.

The minister for food, Quamrul Islam, also Dhaka City Awami League joint general secretary, on Wednesday said implementation of court’s arrest warrant against Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia was a matter of time now. Law would take its own course and steps would be taken against Khaleda Zia at the right time, he said, adding that there would be no concession in this regard. The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a human chain and rally organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote in front of the National Press Club in the city against the killing of innocent people with petrol bombs in the name of non-stop hartal-blockade by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha. Presided over by the jote vice-president and actor ATM Shamsuzzaman, the rally was also addressed by AL leaders Balaram Poddar and Hasibur Rahman Manik and jote general secretary Arun Sarkar Rana. Criticising some members of civil society, the food minister said they are developing various theories at a time when BNP-Jamaat alliance was burning to death innocent people hurling petrol bombs.

All would have to remain alert against those talking about increasing President’s power without speaking about stopping BNP-Jamaat’s sabotage, he added. Quamrul Islam said the Awami League would not sit for talks with any barbaric force. ‘Election is not their objective. Their aim is to protect the war criminals and save Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman from corruption cases,’ he said, adding that their efforts would never be successful.
