Mushrooming of AL outlets won’t be tolerated: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that his party would not tolerate mushrooming of League outlets.
‘Many opportunists have opened fresh outlets using the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman… The party does not need any godfather and profession-less professionals,’ said Quader, also road transport and bridges minister.
‘Profession-less professionals are embarrassing the party through their unruly activities. Erecting a house under another house, putting up a mosquito-net under another net would not be tolerated,’ Obaidul warned while addressing Sylhet divisional grassroots representatives’ conference in the city’s Government Alia Madrassah ground in the afternoon.
Naming outlets like Awami Ulama League, Awami Prajanma League, Awami Tarun League, Awami Prabin League, Awami Karmajibi League and Awami Digital League, the AL leader said that such bodies were mushrooming in the country appropriating the name of Awami League. ‘The persons behind launching such outlets should be handed to the police,’ he said.
The senior AL leader asked the party’s grassroots leaders and activists to take preparations for the next general elections. Instructing them to be disciplined, Quader said, ‘Elections ahead, talk less, work hard. We want to take part in the elections with a stronger and smarter Awami League to win the polls.’
Quader asked the party activists to reform date-expired committees of different units and said, ‘Staying idle in a position year after year as a zaminder will not be allowed… Committees must be formed through councils. Pocket committees will not be accepted.’
Quader told his party men not to be afraid of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, saying that the BNP had turned into a party of complaints. ‘Some BNP leaders are now busy with making false claims and complaints. They issue threats of movements and then sit them out.’
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, AL organising secretaries Ahmad Hossain and Misbah Uddin Siraj, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Swechchhasebak League general secretary Pankaj Devnath, executive members Badar Uddin Ahmad Kamran and Rafiqul Islam, parliament member Abu Zahir, Sylhet district general secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and city unit general secretary Asad Uddin Ahmad, among others, addressed the event.
AL joint-general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif presided over the conference, attended by around 7,000 leaders and activities from four districts — Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj — of the division, party officials said.
