Mufti, Bipul opt to seek presidential pardon

Condemned Bangladesh chapter chief of banned extremist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al Islami Mufti Abdul Hannan and its leader Sharif Shahidul Alam Bipul would seek presidential pardon, said Kashimpur High Security Central Jail authorities.
Delwar Hossain Ripon, another condemned convict in the case of May 21, 20014 grenade attack at the entrance of Hazrat Shahjalal Shrine in Sylhet that killed three and injured at least 36 including British high commissioner Anwar Choudhury, however, sought to
talk to his lawyer to discuss whether or not he would seek presidential mercy, authorities at Sylhet central jail said.
Our Correspondent in Gazipur, quoting Kashimpur High Security Central Jail’s senior jail superintendent Md Mizanur Rahman, reported that the jail authorities read out the Appellate Division’s verdict to Hannan and Bipul in the morning.
He said that the duo informed them that they would appeal to the president seeking his pardon.
New Age correspondent in Sylhet, quoting Sylhet Central Jail’s senior superintendent Md Sagir Miah, reported that the apex court’s verdict upholding his death sentence was read out to Repon in the morning. 
The senior jail super said that Ripon sought to talk to his lawyer and family before deciding whether he would seek presidential clemency.
‘There was no schedule for meeting his family or lawyer on Wednesday. It might be arranged tomorrow (Thursday),’ Sagir Miah said. 
On Tuesday afternoon, the Appellate Division released a five-page full verdict in which the apex court on Sunday upheld the death sentences of the three for killing three and injuring 36 others including the then British high commissioner.
Officials at Kashimpur High Security Central Jail said that the apex court’s full verdict of the trio’s petition reached the jail Tuesday night.
The convicts will be executed between 21 and 28 days after the jail receives the copy of the apex court’s order as per the Jail Code, the prison’s senior superintendent, Md Mizanur Rahman, said.
