BNP smells rat in BB fire

Senior leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday said they smelt a rat in the fire at Bangladesh Bank.
This was reflected in the statements made by the party’s senior leaders in different programmes in the capital.
A fire broke out on the 12th floor of the central bank in the capital around 9:30pm on Thursday and fire fighters brought the flame under control after about one hour.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a discussion in the capital ruled out the claim that fire at the bank originated from a short-circuit.
He alleged that the fire was a ‘planned conspiracy’ and the ruling party was involved in it.
Rizvi wondered that fire broke out on the floor where foreign remittance, foreign exchange and policy matters are dealt. The fire broke out at the emergency place of banking management, he added.
He was addressing the discussion organised by Shawdhinata Forum at Bangladesh Photo Journalist Association.
At another programme on Friday, BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said question arose people about fire at Bangladesh Bank one year after theft of its reserve money.
‘There is question in public mind over fire at this time at Bangladesh Bank,’ Khosru, also former commerce minister, said at a discussion.
He said none could know about the theft of BB reserve in two months of the heist.
After two months, people came to know it from a newspaper report in Philippines, he added.
Jatiyatabadi Krishok Dal, BNP’s farmers wing, organised the discussion at National Press Club on the occasion of Independence and National Day.
