water-logging in capital DSCC mayor blames Dhaka WASA

Dhaka South City mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Tuesday blamed the negligence of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority for water-logging problem in the capital.
Terming the DWASA ‘a failed organisation’, the mayor called for either merging it with the city corporation or overhauling its top brass.
While launching a debate competition in the capital, the mayor also lambasted DWASA for remaining busy with big projects while ignoring everyday public sufferings, said a DSCC press release.
Dhaka Debating Society organised the event to celebrate Dhaka Utshab-2017 where Dhaka University vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as chief guest.
The mayor reminded that resolving the water-logging problem was a responsibility of DWASA, but it did not perform its job properly causing huge sufferings to city dwellers.
Different parts of the city went under water this week, following heavy rain, for long hours creating severe public sufferings.
Sayeed Khokon said that the situation was no longer acceptable. ‘The city
people want change,’ he added.
City corporation officials, Dhaka University teachers and students and debate society members were present at the event.
