Khaleda asked to appear before court on May 22

A Dhaka court on Tuesday asked Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia to appear before it on May 22 in 11 cases, including those related to sedition and arson attacks, filed at different times.
Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla passed the order after hearing separate time petitions for the 11 cases submitted by Khaleda’s counsel Md Sanaullah Miah.
In the time petitions, Khaleda’s counsel sought hearing adjournment saying that Khaleda could not appear before the court due to her illness.
Of the 11 cases, the sedition case was filed by supreme court lawyer Momtaz Uddin Ahmad Mehedi on January 25 last year for her remarks about the number of martyrs during the Liberation War.
Eight cases were filed with Darussalam police and two with Jatrabari police on charges of inciting violence during the BNP-led alliance’s blockade and hartal in January and February 2015.
