Ban on Shakib Khan withdrawn

The indefinite ban imposed on Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan by 12 film associations was withdrawn on Monday after the actor apologised unconditionally.

The withdrawal of the ban was announced through a press conference held at the Studyroom of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association.

Seasoned actor Alamgir, also member of the association’s advisory council, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of the association, and its general secretary Badiul Alam Khokon spoke at the press conference.

‘The film industry is like a family where we must not do anything that goes against the industry. Shakib made a mistake. But since he apologised unconditionally all associations are ready to withdraw the ban,’ said Alamgir, who mediated between Shakib Khan and the associations.

Alamgir, however, proposed that a policy should be formulated by all associations to bring discipline in the industry and to award punishment if anyone violates the policy.

‘We are happy that Shakib Khan has realised his mistake and apologised. We are withdrawing the ban on him,’ said Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar.

Shakib Khan was banned on Saturday for the ‘derogatory comments’ he made earlier on film directors and producers in an interview.

An official letter signed by presidents and secretaries of associations like Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association, Film Editors’ Guild, Cinematographers’ Association, Dance Directors’ Association and others banned Shakib Khan and requested all artistes, directors, producers and technicians not to work with him.

Shakib said, ‘Most directors and producers are jobless and have nothing to do’ in the interview.

On Sunday, Shakib visited Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association where he met presidents and secretaries of different film associations and apologised for his ‘disparaging remarks’.
