Culture of impunity continues in absence of rule of law: NHRC

National Human Rights Commission chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque on Monday said that the country failed to come out from the culture of impunity in the absence of rule of law.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters during his visit to the house of Hazrat Ali, 45, a resident of Karnapur Chhitpara under Sripur upazila in Gazipur, who and his foster daughter Ayesha, 10, committed suicide under a train at Sripur Saturday morning.

The human rights commission chairman said that an influential quarter had been oppressing Hazrat Ali and his foster daughter to grab his properties with impunity.

Primarily it seemed that being deprived of justice because of the absence of the rule of law, Hazrat Ali and his daughter committed suicide protesting against the culture of impunity, he said.
