Narayanganj seven murder: Death confirmation hearing awaits allocation of bench

A High Court Division hearing for the confirmation of death sentences of 26 convicts of the sensational seven murders in Narayanganj awaits assigning the matter to a bench.
The matter would be placed before the Chief Justice in the next week for assigning it to a bench, additional registrar Sabbir Faiz told reporters on Sunday.
He said that a six-volume paper book had been printed.
He said that the 6,000-page paper book contains trial court records relating to sentencing 26 to death and nine others to varying jail terms for murdering Narayanganj Awami League leader and city corporation’s ward councilor Nazrul Islam, lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and five others.
The condemned convicts include local AL leader Noor Hossain, RAB commanding officer at Narayanganj Lieutenant Colonel Tarek Sayeed Mohamamd and RAB officers Major Arif Hossain and Lieutenant Commander Masud Rana.
Tarek, Arif and Rana were sacked from the defence services much after they committed the murders in lieu of money, revealed media reports.
On April 30, 2014, the victims were abducted and later their bodies were found floating in the Sitalakhya River.
The trial court convicted the offenders on January 16.
