Sammilita Ganatantrik Parishad sweeps FBCCI polls

Sammilita Ganatantrik Parishad panel led by Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, the incumbent first vice-president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, swept the election to the board of directors of the federation on Sunday.
Shafiul will lead the country’s apex trade body for 2017-19 tenure as his panel bagged 32 of the 36 positions of directors, according to the election result announced by election board chairman Md Ali Ashraf Sunday night.
Sammilita Ganatantrik Parishad bagged 16 of the 18 positions of director from the association group. The panel also secured 16 of the 18 positions of director from the chamber group, elected uncontested.
In the elections, only the voters of association group cast their votes to elect 18 directors from the group on Sunday as the same number of directors from the chamber group were elected unopposed.
A total of 36 candidates contested for the positions of 18 directors for the association group from two panels. Babashaye Oikya Forum led by Syed Moazzam Hossain got two positions of directors from association group.
Thirty-six elected directors along with 24 nominated directors (12 from the chamber group and 12 from the association group) would choose the president and vice-presidents of the country’s apex trade body for the next two-year tenure on Tuesday.
This year, the president and vice-president will be elected from the association group and the first vice-president will be elected from chamber group.
Directors elected from association group are Khondoker Monir, SM Jahangir Hossain, Shafquat Haider, Md Abul Ayes Khan, Muntakim Ashraf, Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Kazi Ertaza Hassan, Amzad Hussain, Md Shafiqul Islam, Abu Motaleb, Habib Ullah Dawn, Khandaker Ruhul Amin, Nizam Uddin Rajesh, Helena Jahangir, Hafez Harun, Shomi Kaiser, Md Abu Naser and Rashadul Hassan.
Directors elected from chamber group are Hasina Newaaz, Nizam Uddin, Azizul Hoque, Dilip Kumar Agarwala, Masud Parvez Khan, AKM Shaheed Reza, Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarker, Sheikh Fazle Fahim, Md Rezaul Karim Renzu, Gazi Golam Ashria, Masudur Rahman, Tabarukul Tosaddek Hossain Khan, Md Kohinur Islam, Parabir Kumar Saha, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohammad Bazlur Rahman, Khairul Huda Chopol and Mohammed Riyadh Ali.
