AL’s election preparations to begin from today’s meeting: Quader

Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said his party will begin its preparations for the next parliament election from today’s extended meeting to be chaired by party chief Sheikh Hasina.
‘Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina will give directions over the next election in today’s extended meeting to be held at the Ganabhaban. Through this, we will begin all-out preparations for the national election,’ he told a discussion meeting in the capital.
The AL general secretary was addressing as chief guest the discussion at Shilpakala Academy marking the 37th homecoming day of party chief Sheikh Hasina.
Awami Juba League organised the discussion with its chairman Mohammad Omar Faruk Chowdhury in the chair.
Juba League general secretary Md Harun-or-Rashid, presidium member Md Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury and Faruk Hossain, Juba League Dhaka city south unit president Md Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat and Dhaka city north unit general secretary Md Ismail Hossain, among others, addressed the discussion.
Quader said the AL’s first extended meeting is taking place within six months after the 20th national council of the party. A new declaration and a constitution will be handed over to the party leaders in the meeting, he added.
Renewal of old general members of Awami League and a campaign for collecting new members will begin through the meeting, he added.
The AL general secretary urged all leaders and workers to remain alert so that no incident of intrusion can take place in the party during the campaign. In reply to the BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remarks on establishing political consensus, Obaidul Quader said the door of consensus shut when prime minister Sheikh Hasina returned from the door of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia after going to console the death of her son.
‘Awami League cannot compromise with those who rewarded the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and launched grenade attack to kill prime minister Sheikh Hasina,’ he said.
Quader said it is BNP’s political right to take part in the national election but there is nothing to force anyone to join polls.
During the constitution of the Election Commission, he said, the president appointed one person from Awami League’s and one from BNP’s proposals.
Mentioning that a level playing field has been established at EC, the AL general secretary said the next general election will be held under the EC and election time government will just do routine works.
