BNP wants success of CJ’s efforts: Moudud

Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Friday claimed that chief justice SK Sinha was ‘truly trying to establish independence of judiciary’.
‘We want his (CJ) efforts to be successful,’ said Moudud, Supreme Court lawyer and former law minister, told a discussion adding that the chief justice deserved praise.
Bangladesh Ganatantrik Sangskritik Jote organised the discussion on BNP’s ‘Vision 2030: future politics and course of action’ at National Press Club in the capital.
The standing committee member said now rule of law meant ‘partisan rule’.
About general election, Moudud said ruling Awami League knew that their defeat was a must if a fair election was held.
‘So they (AL) are afraid of holding a fair election,’ he observed.
Moudud, however, said ‘The next election would be a free and fair and no one-party election would be held and BNP will join that election.’
He said they were ready for election whenever it was held and demanded that people must be given the scope to exercise their franchise.
That was why BNP was asking for a poll-time ‘election-conducive’ government, he noted.
The BNP leader, on the recent social crimes, particularly raping of two university students at Rain Tree Hotel in the capital, said some government and influential people were behind each social crime occurring now in the country.
Moudud said name of the owner of the Rain Tree Hotel was also published in newspapers.
Presided over by Ganatantrik Sanskritik Jote president Ashraf Uddin Bakul, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by BNP leaders Sukomal Barua, Habibur Rahman Habib, Habibul Islam Habib and Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah.
