Mercedes Benz of Apan Jewellers owner seized

Customs intelligence and investigation directorate officials seized a luxury car of Apan Jewellers owner Dildar Ahmed from Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon.
Dildar is the father of Shafat Ahmed, the arrested prime suspect in a rape case filed with the Banani police in Dhaka. 
Prabhat Kumar Singha, assistant director in the Sylhet office of customs intelligence and investigation directorate, confirmed New Age about the seizure of the vehicle.
He said that the Mercedes Benz car had been seized from the house of Dildar’s maternal uncle at Purba Zindabazar in the city. 
car was registered 2011 but through pin code they came to know that the car was imported in 2002.
Prabhat said that though Bangladesh Road Transport Authority papers showed the car being manufactured in 2011, the investigators had come to know the car being ‘originally’ manufactured in 2002.
‘The market price of the vehicle is Tk 1.5 crore,’ Prabhat said, adding that the car had been parked in front of the house of Dildar’s maternal uncle.
Nobody was detained for interrogation in this regard.
‘Steps in this regard will be taken after receiving directives from the authorities,’ he said. 
A university student lodged the case with the Banani police on May 6 accusing five people, including Shafat and Nayeem Ashraf alias Hasan Mohammad Halim, of raping her and her friend.
She also accused Sadman Sakif, son of Picasso Restaurant co-owner Mohammad Hossain Jony Shikdar, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali of assisting the rapists.
According to the case statement, the complainant along with her friend went to a Banani hotel to attend the birthday party of Shafat on March 28 and they were confined and raped overnight at gun point.
The authorities launched investigations into how Apan Jewellers owners, including Dildar, had been procured gold following the filing of the complaint.
The customs sealed off all the showrooms of Apan jewellers and seized around 500 kilograms of gold and diamonds.
