PARIS CLIMATE DEAL US pull-out disappoints Bangladesh

Bangladesh on Tuesday expressed its disappointment at the United States’ decision of withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement.
‘It would be unfortunate to lose a leading partner like the United States in the global journey to secure a green and safe planet for ourselves and our future generations,’ the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Bangladesh, being one of the most climate vulnerable countries with a current population of 160 million, ‘remains committed’ to the agreement, it said.
Bangladesh would continue its efforts with all friends and partners around
the globe to mobilise domestic and international resources to address the grave threats posed by climate change, the statement added.
US president Donald Trump said on June 1 that he was withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate accord, a sweeping step that fulfilled a campaign promise while acutely dampening global efforts to curb global warming, according to cnn.com.
Speaking from the White House, Trump said that he was open to renegotiating aspects of the agreement, which was inked under his predecessor and which all nations except two had signed onto.
Paris climate agreement is a global deal within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change dealing with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.
The agreement was negotiated by representatives of 196 parties at the 21st Conference of the Parties of the framework convention in Paris and adopted by consensus on December12, 2015.
As of June 2017, 195 members have signed the agreement, 148 of which have ratified it.
