Flood situation worsens

Major rivers in the country continued to swell, further deteriorating the flood situation in the north on Wednesday.
Three people drowned in the northern districts of Kurigram and Gaibandha while fresh land went under water in the northern districts. 
Disaster management and relief affairs minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on the day said about 6.5 lakh people were affected by the flood in 13 districts. 
The flood forecasting and warning centre said it recorded rise in water level at 63 of its 90 flood monitoring stations across the country in 24 hours ending at 9:00am Wednesday.
Eight major rivers were flowing over the danger level at a dozen points across the country. 
The FFWC said that the Brahmaputra, Ganges, Jamuna and Padma rivers were on the rising trend and were likely to keep rising in the next 48 hours. 
It also recorded heavy rainfall at 18 points across the country. The highest 200mm rainfall was recorded in Durgapur. 
Our Kurigram correspondent reported drowning of a 22-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man in the district on the day. 
About 1.50 lakh people were stranded in 300 villages in 35 unions in the district as the flood situation kept deteriorating. 
Our Jamalpur correspondent reported rapid deterioration in flood situation with the River Jamuna flowing 70cm above the danger level at Bahadurabad point at 3:00pm.
Our Sirajganj and Rangpur correspondents reported that the flood situation worsened in the district too, inundating fresh land areas.
