The ruling Awami League general secretary, Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, on Tuesday said that the cabinet might be reshuffled.
Replying to a press query after a meeting with Australian High commissioner in Bangladesh Julia Niblett and another official from the high commission at Setu Bhaban in the Dhaka, he said that it was the prime who would decide when the cabinet to be reshuffled.
‘But a cabinet reshuffle may take place,’ he added.
Asked about possibility of the creation of a new post of deputy-prime minister, Obaidul said that it was totally a rumour. ‘I know nothing about it.’
He also said that the Election Commission was to decide whether and how it would use the Bangladesh Army as striking force in the next general elections.
The Australian High Commission officials met the minister to discuss the government’s planning on next general elections.
Earlier on May 8 at the ministry, the minister also hinted that the cabinet might be reshuffled.
When asked about the prospective time, Obaidul had said that it was the prerogative of the prime minister only.
Many things would happen in political alignment before the next polls, he had said.
