Girl raped, killed on running bus

Three transport workers on Tuesday confessed to raping a law student on a moving bus and killing her in Tangail Friday night. 
They made the confession in a magistrate court after five people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the rape and killing of Rupa Khatun, a student of Ideal Law College in Dhaka, when she was going to Mymensingh from Bogra Friday night.
Rupa had completed her graduation and Master’s in political science from Government Azizul Haque College in Bogra, family said, adding that she worked in the quality control section of a multinational company and was stationed in Mymensingh.
The arrested are the bus driver, Habi, supervisor Sabed Ali and assistants Akram, Shamim and Jahangir.
Tangail assistant superintendent of police Alamgir Kabir said that of the accused Akram, Shamim and Jahangir confessed to the crime after they were produced before Tangail judicial magistrate court on Tuesday.
Habi and Sabed would be produced in the court on Wednesday, he said.
The body of the girl was recovered by police from
near Madhupur forest on Friday night and was buried as unidentified by the police at Tangail central graveyard.
The victim’s brother, Hafizur Rahman from Tarash in Sirajganj, who identified the body on Monday, said that on Friday night his sister was going to her workplace on a bus of Chhoa Paribahan after attending teacher registration examination in Bogra.
During interrogation the accused admitted to killing the victim after gang rape and throwing away the body from the running bus near Pachish Mile in Madhupur, said Madhupur police officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam.
Shafiqul said police found the body around 11:30pm on Friday and as there were evidences of killing, a murder case was already filed against unknown people.
After identification, the victim’s brother also filed another case against the five, he said.
