RAB finds relief rice missing from Tejgaon CSD

Rapid Action Battalion on Wednesday found huge discrepancy in the amount of relief rice released from Tejgaon central storage depot in the capital for distribution among flood victims.
Iftekhar-ul Mabub, commanding officer of RAB-2, said that they, on a tip-off, barred two trucks carrying 30 tonnes of relief rice at Tejgaon CSD gate on Tuesday night and kept it under the CSD manager’s custody.
Later on Wednesday, he said, a team of RAB, led by executive magistrate Sarwar Alam, went to the warehouse on Wednesday and found that the trucks had been carrying 19.5 tonnes of rice.
A release, issued by RAB legal and media wing, said that when the RAB men weighted the sacks of the truck, they found 12kg or 14kg or 16kg rice in many of the sacks supposed to be of 30kg.
It said that a section of dishonest officials were involved in misappropriating the rice.
It also said that the magistrate found that though the CSD officials released only 75 tonnes of rice to Dhaka district Ansar Bahini, the CSD officials recorded release of 258 tonnes of rice in its registrar.
The release said that the irregularity was a grievous offence and that was why it would be sent to Anti-Corruption Commission for proper legal action.
