Turkish FM, first lady to visit Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar

Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and first lady Emine Erdogan would visit Cox's Bazar on Thursday to see ethnic minority Rohingyas of Myanmar who fled from persecution in Rakhine State.

A special plane carrying the Turkish delegation would fly to Cox's Bazar from Dhaka after 10:00am.

Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali and state minister M Shahriar Alam are expected to receive and accompany the Turkish delegation in Cox's Bazar.

The Turkish delegation reached Dhaka by two special flights early Thursday, officials said.

At least 1,46,000 Rohingyas fled from Muslim majority Rakhine State as Myanmar security forces and religious bigots relaunched ethnic cleansing, after ‘alleged’ attacks on security posts on August 25, according to international agencies.

Around 1,00,000 Rohingyas have also been waiting to cross the border.

Bangladesh has been hosting over 3,00,000 undocumented Myanmar nationals and over 33,000 registered refugees for about three decades amid protracted crisis in Rakhine State.
