Woman burnt to death in Badda fire

A woman died while her two children sustained burn injuries in an incident of fire that broke out in Boitakhali area of Middle Badda in the city early Sunday.

The victim, Jesmin Akter, 32, succumbed to her injuries at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said medical officer Partha Sankar Paul.

Jisan, 11, and Sanjida, 9, who received 30 and 28 per cent burns respectively, were undergoing treatment here, the burn unit physician added.

The fire burnt a shop of furniture and another one of waste materials and spread to an adjacent shanty around 3:30am, said a duty officer of fire service and civil defence control room.  

Two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame, he said.

Locals said Jesmin along her two children was asleep then and received burn injuries.
