Wrong lane driving : DMP chief for ensuring rule of law

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, Md Asaduzzaman Mia, on Monday emphasised on ensuring rule of law over the issue of driving in wrong lane in which big shots were caught in police net during their drive.

Traffic department of DMP on Sunday filed 57 cases against vehicles, including those carrying a state minister, a lawmaker and other senior government officials, for wrong lane driving on Hare Road in the capital. 

The vehicles were also carrying police, army, media, fire service and Dhaka University staff.

When asked whether such drive would continue or not, the DMP chief said ensuring good governance, rule of law, accountability and transparency are the directions of the prime minister and the home minister.

There is no room for letting those off, he said.

‘We’ll not allow anybody to be let off (over driving in wrong lane) and we’ll do whatever is required to ensure the matter.’

Asaduzzaman Mia was briefing reporters at Dhakeshwari temple in the city this morning about measures taken to maintain law and order situation during Durga Puja.

There is no lack in security system in Dhaka during Durga Puja, he said.

All necessary measures have been taken during puja keeping sabotage issue in mind, the DMP chief continued.

More puja mandaps have been set up this year and in accordance with that security measures have been taken, he said.

Local community has been involved in security system, he said.

Routes of entry and exit have been separated in each mandap to avert any untoward situation, he said.

‘We’ll ensure the matter of security during the puja in coordination between police top officials and leaders of Puja Udjapan Committee.’
