City bus kills rickshaw-puller in Bangla Motor crossing

A young rickshaw-puller was killed and several other people were injured in a road accident in Bangla Motor crossing in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
The body of the deceased, aged around 25 years, was kept in Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, said sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
The identity of the dead could not be known immediately, the police officer said. 
A bus, plying Jatrabari to Gabtoli route, hit rickshaws and people crossing the road at Bangla Motor intersection at about 9:45pm while it was heading towards Farmgate from Shahbagh, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Zone senior assistant traffic commissioner Mohammad Alauddin. 
The rickshaw puller died on the spot while its passenger, Ali Hossain, 25, injured critically, Alauddin added.
Ali Hossain was immediately taken to DMCH.
Police said several bus passengers also received minor injuries. 
Agitated people set fire to the bus. Later fire fighters extinguished the fire.
Police detained the bus driver, Mohammad Sajib, 18, from the spot. 
Shahbagh police sub-inspector Ruhidul Islam said Sajib violated the traffic signal before he ran over the people. 
The driver was not eligible to get a professional driving licence as according to the law a person must be at least 20-year-old before seeking a driving licence, he said. 
Preparation for filing of a case is underway, said Ruhidul Islam.
