Passengers suffer as transport strike goes on in Manikganj

Manikganj district Bus Owners-Workers Oikya Parishad enforced a daylong strike Sunday, protesting the attack on bus owners and workers at central bus terminal, disrupting road communications between Manikganj and the rest of the country.

Due to the strike, all kinds of Dhaka-bound bus services from Aricha, Paturia Ghat, Ghior, Daulatpur, Harirampur, and Jhitka have remained stopped, worsening the woes of thousands of passengers.

The Bus Owners-Workers Oikya Parishad called the 12-hour strike from 6:00am on Sunday in the district protesting the attack on bus owners and workers by a group of transport owners-workers on Saturday.

Leaders of the organisation alleged that another group of transport owners and workers launched the attack on them with an attempt to occupy the central bus terminal and establish its supremacy there.

Additional police have been deployed at Manikganj bus stand and terminal.
