SA pile more misery on Tigers

Mushfiqur Rahim’s brave century went in vain as South Africa crushed Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the first one-day international to take a 1-0 lead in three-match series at Kimberly on Sunday.
Mushfiqur Rahim struck an unbeaten 110 off 116 balls – the first ever ODI century by a Bangladeshi against South Africa – which helped them post 278-7 after skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza won the toss and opted to bat first.
But Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla made a mockery of the total, sharing 282 runs in an unbroken opening stand to take South Africa home with more than seven overs to spare.
De Kock hit 168 off 145 balls with 21 fours and two sixes while Amla added an unbeaten 110 to give South Africa their third 10-wicket win over Bangladesh in 18 meetings.
This was overall Bangladesh’s 11th 10-wicket loss, but first in more than nine years, as they last suffered a defeat by maximum margin against Pakistan in an Asia Cup match at Karachi in 2008.
De Kock and Amla’s exploit in the opening pair is also new record against Bangladesh as they have got now highest against
Bangladesh in any wicket partnership.
West Indies’ Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin held the previous record of 258 runs, which they shared at St Kitts in 2014.
Bangladesh, who were without injured Tamim Iqbal, Mustafizur Rahman and out of form Soumya Sakrar, hoped to get a better match after their batting clicked in the tour for the first time.
Mushfiq led the batting charge for the Tigers, who surpassed their previous highest 251-8 in 2007, with his fifth one-day international century adorned with 11 fours and two sixes.
It is also the first century by a Bangladeshi against South Africa, surpassing Soumya Sarkar’s unbeaten 90 in Chittagong in 2015.
Openers Imrul Kayes and Liton Das made 31 and 21 runs respectively before Mushfiq put 59-run stand with Sakib al Hasan (29) and 69-run with Mahmudullah (26).
Sakib at 17 became the fastest cricketer in history to achieve the double of 5,000 runs and 200 wickets in one-day internationals.
Kagiso Rabada picked up 4-43 wickets for South Africa
