ATTACK ON HINDUS IN RANGPUR Uneasy calm still prevails, 24 more arrested

Uneasy calm prevailed at village Thakurpara in Rangpur on Monday, three days after the Hindus of the village came under an arson attack over a facebook post defaming Islam and its prophet.
The affected villagers told reporters that that they were rebuilding their houses and trying to overcome the trauma though they were still in fear.
A victim, Sudhir Roy, said, ‘We are still in fear. The attackers not only burnt our houses, but also looted all our belongings.’
The Rangpur Sadar and Gangachara police said the police arrested 24 more people on Monday for their suspected involvement in the attack, raising the number of total arrest to 77 in connection with the attack in the past three days.
Gongachara police officer-in-charge Zinnat Ali said, ‘Our investigation in the case has progressed a lot but we will not disclose anything in this regard right now for the sake of the investigation.’

He also said that they suspected that the facebook post, that spread hatred, might be fake.
‘We are yet to arrest the man, Titu Roy, from Thakurpara and now residing in Narayanganj, whose name was used while opening the facebook account. The fact will be clear after the arrest of Titu,’ he added.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader and Indian assistant high commissioner Avijit Chattapaddhay visited the affected area.
