Tamim upholds spirit of game in Comilla win

Spirit of the game overshadowed on-field actions as Comilla Victorians defeated Dhaka Dynamites by 12 runs to return to the top of the table in the Bangladesh Premier League in Chittagong on Wednesday.
Set a target of 168 runs, Dhaka were caught between hopes and despair when they reached 124-6 in 17 overs before the game took a decisive turn in successive deliveries of Dewayne Bravo.
With Dhaka still needing 44 off 18 balls, the reigning champions lost their Caribbean batsman Kieron Pollard for 27 in the first ball of over before Kevon Cooper collided with Bravo in the pitch next ball.
Bravo tumbled onto the ground after the collision, prompting Cooper to put his attention on him without looking to complete his run. But much to his shock, Comilla wicketkeeper Liton Das collected to ball and sent it to bowling end to dismantle the stumps.
The umpires had little choice but to declare Cooper run out, but an embarrassed Comilla skipper Tamim Iqbal quickly realised their mistake and called Cooper back into the crease.
Cooper was initially reluctant to return but agreed to resume his innings only after he was requested by Dhaka coach Khaled Mahmud.
Cooper hit Bravo a six in the final ball of the over before Jahirul Islam smashed three successive fours off Hasan Ali in the next over to add further twist into the game.
However, Comilla bowlers kept their composure under tight situation to restrict Dhaka finally to 155-8 for their seventh win in nine matches, which helped the side leapfrogging Khulna Titans to reclaim the top-spot.
Bravo finished with 3-31 while Evin Lewis made highest 49 runs for Dhaka.
Earlier, Comilla rode on four cameos from Tamim (36), Liton (34) Imrul Kayes (26) and Marlon Samuels (39) to put a competitive score after they were sent to bat first.
Cooper claimed 3-42 while Sakib al Hasan chipped in with 2-23 for Dhaka
