ATTACK ON JOURNOS Land minister’s son Tomal sent to jail

A Pabna court on Wednesday sent Sirhan Sharif Tamal, son of land minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, to jail rejecting his bail petition in a case filed for assaulting journalists at Ishwardi on November 29.
The judge of Pabna’s cognizance court-1 Rezaul Karim sent Tamal to jail after he surrendered before the court and sought bail.
The court order came when the journalists in Pabna were holding a rally seeking punishment for Tamal.
At least two police members — assistant sub-inspector Abu Syed and constable Jahangir Hossain — were injured as they tried to stop a motorcade of 17 microbuses carrying Tamal and his associates near the court premises on the day, additional superintendent of police in Pabna Gautam Kumar Biswas told reporters.
Tamal, president of Ishwardi upazila unit of Juba League, and his associates on November 29 assaulted a group of print and TV journalists.
The journalists were covering an attack on rival ruling party leader’s convoy in Pabna’s Ishwardi. Four journalists sustained injuries during the melee.
A case was filed against Tomal and 30 others with Ishwardi Police Station on that day.
