Hindus may face more attacks before election: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday warned that the Hindus of the county might face more attacks ahead of next general election.
More houses and temples of the Hindus may come under attack, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, told reporters after inaugurating the construction of Vivekananda Bhaban at Ramkrishna Mission in Dhaka.
‘In our country the Hindus often face attacks, but those were isolated incidents. However, the attacks before the election will be election related,’ Quader said.
A certain quarter was behind the attacks, who tried to prove that the Awami League-led government had failed to protect minority communities, and they also tried to destroy the good and friendly relationship between the Bangladesh and the Indian governments, Quader said.
But their attempts would not succeed as the government would take stern action against the attackers, Quader said.
He called on the Hindus not to hesitate and stand strongly against.
‘The next general election will be held under the constitutional provision, the Election Commission will conduct it in association with the present government,’ Quader said.
Chaired by Ramkrishna Mission executive committee president Gour Gopal Saha, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Singla, Jatiya Party MP Kazi Firoz Rashid and columnist Syed Abul Maksud, among others, addressed the ceremony.
