Quader slams formation of BCL school bodies

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday strongly criticised Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the party, over formation of school committees.
Addressing at a discussion meeting at Bangla Academy auditorium to mark Martyred Intellectual Day and Victory Day, Quader, also road transport and bridges minster, said that the idea of school committee of Chhatra League was not right.
‘The school students should not be involved in politics,’ Quader stressed.
On November 22, the central Chhatra League leaders sent a letter to every school across the country to form committee at every school, which drew widespread criticisms.
‘Student politics can exist at college and university levels for the welfare of students but it should not be introduced at school level,’ Quader reiterated.
He called on Chhatra League leaders and activists to refrain from such move that could tarnish the image of Awami League.
‘The mass media has started criticising formation of such committee in schools and we do not want to face such criticism,’ Quader warned.
For the defeat of Awami League candidate in Rangpur City Corporation election, Quader blamed a section of media but claimed that the party’s vote increased by 35 thousands from the previous election.
He also criticised the BNP leaders for rejecting the result of the RCC polls, saying that the elections would be fair when their party would win.
Organising secretary of Awami League and former president of Chhatra League AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and others also spoke at the discussion.
