Blogger accused of ‘disrespecting Prophet’ held at Dhaka airport

Immigration police arrested a blogger who is accused in a case filed under the Information Communication Technology Act with Amtali police station of Barguna at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday night.

The arrestee, Asaduzzaman Noor, better known as Asad Noor, was arrested from the airport around 10:00pm and handed him over to the airport police, inspector (investigation) of Airport Police Station Ezaz Shafi said.

Asaduzzman was heading for Kathmandu.

He said there was warrant of arrest against him in the case and they just followed the court order.

A case was filed against him with Amtali Police Station at Barguna under the ICT act.

Mohammad Shahidullah, officer-in-charge of Amtali police station, said Asad Noor used to disrespect the prophet of Islam Muhammad (SM) on Facebook, Youtube and different blogs and online platforms through write-ups and podcasts. A case was filed against him in January and charges were press against him in August, he said adding that police was looking for him since then. The immigration police was alerted so that he cannot flee the country, he added. 

Shahidullah said another one Limon Fakir was earlier arrested in the case. He suspected that they are members of an international ring that is engaged in such activities.
