Boy killed in Gazipur slum fire
A boy was killed and two others were injured in a fire which broke out at a slum of Ershadnagar at Tongi in Gazipur early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Rana Ershad, 13, son of Monir Hossain while the injured were Monir Hossain and his other son Rajib.
At least three houses and four shops were gutted in the fire incident.
Tongi Fire Service Station officer Atiqul Islam said the fire broke out at a shanty in Block 2 in in the area around 5:45am and soon it engulfed the adjoining ones.
On information, three firefighting units rushed in and doused the blaze after a half hour of frantic efforts with the help of locals.
Later, they recovered the charred body of Rana from the slum and sent it to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
The firemen also rescued Monir Hossain and his other son Rajib from the spot and sent them to the burn unit of the DMCH, said Atiqul Islam.
The causes of fire could not be known immediately.
