DPDC prepaid consumers to get recharge from GP

Power consumers with prepaid electricity meters in the areas that fall under the Dhaka Power Distribution Company’s jurisdiction will now be able to recharge their cards at the Grameenphone-authorised retail shops.
DPDC and Grameenphone on Sunday signed an agreement for providing vending services to the prepaid electricity consumers from the retail shops selected by the mobile phone company.
Power consumers maintaining GP’s electronic wallet service will also be able to get the vending service round the clock.
While addressing the contract signing programme held at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital, power division secretary Ahmad Kaikaus said that the power division planned to offer the technological advantages for recharging cards for ensuring hassle-free use of prepaid electricity meters across the country.
When asked, DPDC managing director Bikash Dewan told New Age that the service would offer more comfort to the prepaid electricity meter users as the GP service would run parallel to the DPDC’s current vending service.
‘A customer will get 24/7 vending service from GP-selected retail shops by paying Tk 5 to Tk 20 for each recharge,’ he said.
Initially, the vending service at retail shops will be available for the prepaid electricity consumers living in Lalbagh and Azimpur areas in Dhaka city while the service will be available in a month in the entire distribution area of the DPDC, said officials.
A customer will be charged by the GP retailer at the rate of Tk 5 for recharging up to Tk 400, Tk 10 for recharging Tk 401-1,500, Tk 15 for recharging Tk 1,501-5,000 and Tk 25 for recharging more than Tk 5,000 at a time, they said.
Jayanta Kumar Sikder, a joint secretary and company secretary of DPDC, and Rasheda Sultana, head of financial services of Grameenphone, signed the contract.
A GP press release said that GP-selected retail outlets would serve as DPDC distribution points for providing vending solutions to its (DPDC) customers.
DPDC customers will be able to visit Grameenphone authorised agent points with pre-paid meter smart cards and recharge their smart cards, it said.
