PM pays homage to Sheikh Mujib on Homecoming Day

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding president, on the occasion of his historic Homecoming Day.

She paid the homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital.

Cabinet members including industry minister Amir Hossain Amu, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, agriculture minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and shipping minister Shajahan Khan were present.

After laying the wreaths, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for sometime as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Sheikh Mujib.  Flanked by central leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, placed another wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Mujib on behalf of her party.

On this day in 1972, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to independent and sovereign Bangladesh after over nine and half months of captivity in a Pakistan jail.

Since then, the nation observes the day as the Homecoming Day of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
