JU student suspended over admission forgery

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University on Wednesday night suspended a student over allegation of involvement in admission forgery under 2016-17 academic year.

The decision was made at an emergency syndicate meeting presided over by JU vice-chancellor professor Farzana Islam around 9:00pm.

Proctor professor Tapan Kumar Saha confirmed New Age about the decision.

Meanwhile, a four-member probe body led by anthropology professor Rasheda Akter was formed to investigate the incident, said registrar Abu Bakr Siddique.

The suspended student was identified as Al Amin, a final-year student of geography and environment department under 42nd batch of the university and a resident of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall.

The authorities made the decision following a written allegation submitted by the university proctor office on Tuesday over a fake female student who had been attending classes without any admission since one year.

The allegation said, ‘Al Amin assured her (female student) that he had admitted the female candidate in journalism and media studies department in exchange of Tk 4.2 lakh.’

The incident came to the surface when Al Amin failed to admit her in the department but the female candidate had continuing her classes without admission since a year.

On Tuesday, upon the doubt, the chairman of the JMS department interrogated the female student as she had no roll and registration number to attend the department’s final-year exam.

During interrogation, she admitted that she had not passed in the admission test under 2016-17 academic year and continued her class on assurance of Al Amin.

She also confessed that she paid Tk 20,000 to Al Amin over the matter.

The female student was handed over to her family on Wednesday
