NARAYANGONG VIOLENCE Ivy improving, says doctor

The condition of Narayanganj city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, who suffered brain hemorrhage after a clash with lawmaker Shamim Osman, was now stable and improving fast, doctors said on Saturday.
At a press briefing at Lab Aid Hospital in Dhaka, senior consultant Baren Chakraborty, under whom Selina was being treated at the hospital, said Selina suffered a minor hemorrhage in the backside of the brain, but she was fine now.
He said no further complications developed as shown in the CT scan done on Saturday.
Baren said Selina would be shifted to a cabin from ICU Sunday morning.
‘We hope she will be released after 3-4 days of rest,’ he said.
Replying to a question, Baren said that Selina suffered from memory loss when she was admitted to the hospital, but she was now doing well.
‘She is absolutely fine now and can remember everything,’ Baren said.
Baren said Selina might have suffered stress that caused the brain hemorrhage.
Selina’s younger brother Ahmed Ali Reza told New Age that his sister was now fine.
‘We’ll take her home soon,’ he said at the hospital.
Selina fell ill at her corporation office and was rushed to Dhaka where she was admitted to Lab Aid Hospital Thursday afternoon.
Ivy and at least 50 others were injured when supporters of Shamim Osman allegedly attacked her procession in the city Tuesday afternoon.
Narayanganj police, however, did neither file any case nor arrest anyone into the attack on Ivy and her supporters.
The district administration formed a probe committee into the violence which ensued when Ivy went to evict footpath grabbers in the city.
The probe committee head, Jasim Uddin Haider, additional deputy commissioner of Narayanganj, said they had started
investigation and the report would be disclosed
soon.
