Presidential poll Feb 19

Law minister Anisul Huq said on Monday that the presidential election would be held on February 19 as the tenure of president Md Abdul Hamid would expire on April 23.
‘I came to know from an Election Commission gazette notification that the presidential election would be held on February 19,’ he told New Age in the evening.
Earlier on the day, commission’s acting secretary Helaluddin Ahmed told New Age that chief commissioner
KM Nurul Huda was scheduled for Thursday to preside over a meeting on the presidential election.
As per the constitutional obligation, the election needs to be held within the next 30 days after the first day of countdown — that is by February 22, commission officials said.
They said that since the constitution stipulated that members of parliament would elect the president, the voting would take place during the ongoing 19th parliament session.
According to the parliament secretariat, the running session will continue until February 28.
The Article 123 of the constitution says, ‘In the case of a vacancy in the office of President occurring by reason of the expiration of his term of office an election to fill the vacancy shall be held within the period of ninety to sixty days prior to the date of expiration of the term.’
On February 24, 2013, Abdul Haimid took over as the country’s 20th president being elected uncontested.
