PM holds talks with Indonesian president

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina began bilateral talks with Indonesian president Joko Widodo on Sunday following a tete-a-tete after receiving the visiting dignitary at her office in Dhaka.

‘The two leaders had a tete-a-tete and then the official talks between the two countries began . . . they are being aided by ministers and officials concerned,’ a prime minister's office spokesman said.

Sheikh Hasina earlier received the Indonesian president at the Tiger Gate of the PMO at 9:49am with a bouquet.

The Indonesian president arrived in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon on a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart M Abdul Hamid.

Widodo's official engagement began with paying a courtesy call on Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban yesterday evening.

The Indonesian president laid a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar this morning to pay homage to 1971 Liberation War martyrs.

Then he visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi and placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to pay respect to the memory of the greatest Bengali of all times.

Widodo will go to Cox's Bazar this afternoon to witness the plight of Rohingya people who fled sectarian violence in Myanmar.

The displaced Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh territory since the Myanmar army launched a crackdown on August 25, 2017 in their Buddhist-majority northwestern Rakhine State.

Wrapping up his two-day visit here, Indonesian president is scheduled to leave Dhaka at 9:00am on Monday.
