SSC, equivalent exams begin

The Secondary School Certificate and its equivalent examinations began across the country on Thursday morning.

This year, 20,31,899 students are expected to sit for the exams, of which 16,03,078 students are expected to appear for SSC exams under eight general education boards, 2,89,772 for Dakhil exams under the madrassah education board and 1,14,779 for vocational exams under the technical education board.

As many as 10,23,212 boys and 10,08,687 girls are expected to sit for the exams from 8,551 institutions in 3,412 centres.

The written exams will continue till February 25 while practical exams will be held between February 26 and March 4.

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid at a press conference on Wednesday said that all possible steps had been taken to prevent question leak during the exams. He said that the coaching centres had remained closed since January 26 following a government directive and they would continue to remain shut till the end of the exams.

Every examinee must take his or her seat in their respective centres 30 minutes before the start of any exam, he said.

Last year, allegation of question leaks one after another of different papers of Primary Education Completion exams, Junior School Certificate exams, Higher Secondary Certificate, and SSC exams surfaced ahead of the exams.

The government is reintroducing unified question papers for all public exams with effect from the SSC exams raising further worries about chances as well as quick spread of question leaks.
