10 passengers killed, 20 injured

At least 10 people, including three women and two children, were killed and 20 others injured when a passenger bus hit a parked trailer from the back on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Tribardi area under Sonargaon in Narayanganj on Monday. 
Of the injured, six succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, two died on the spot and two others died at a local hospital, police said.
All of the deceased and injured were bus passengers.
Witnesses said that a Chittagong-bound Dhaka CDM Paribahan local bus hit the parked trailer’s back while overtaking it at about 1:45pm in front of Kentucky Garments on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. 
Kanchpur Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Qaiyum said the driver, Md Yeasin, allegedly had lost control over the vehicle, a third of which including its front was crumpled after the collision.
Two passengers died on the spot and two other were sent to the Sonargaon Health Complex where they died later including Ziasmin, a worker of Ananta Garment. 
A total of 26 critically injured passengers were sent to DMCH where six people including Hena Akhter Popy, 18, Radeem, 6, brother in law of Hena, Shuvo Saha, 18 and Yeasmin, 38, succumbed to their injuries, said DMCH officials. 
Among the injured, two were shifted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Rehabilitation in the evening.
Sonargaon thana officer-in-charge Morshed Alam said the bus driver and helper fled from the scene after the accident. Till 8:00pm on Monday, no case was filed regarding the incident.
