ZIA CHARITABLE TRUST GRAFT CASE Khaleda’s bail extended till March 13

A special court in Dhaka on Monday extended the bail of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia until March 13 in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 passed the order while responding to a petition of Khaleda’s lawyer Abdur Rezak Khan seeking an extension of her bail in the case.
The same court on Sunday extended her bail in the case until Monday.
The court had also sentenced the former prime minister to five years in jail over the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8.
On August 8, 2010 the Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against the BNP chairperson and three others accusing them of abusing power to raise funds for Zia Charitable Trust from unknown sources.
The charges were submitted on January 16, 2012 by the ACC investigating officer, leading to indictment of the suspects on March 19, 2013.
The others accused in the case are Khaleda’s former political secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former personal assistant Ziaul Islam Munna and former Dhaka City mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s personal assistant Monirul Islam Khan.
