Ferdousi Priyabhashini passes away

Eminent sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini passed away on Tuesday noon at Labaid Hospital in the capital.  

Priyabhashini had been suffering from multiple ailments like diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure, informed Labaid assistant manager Saifur Rahman Lenin.

Priyabhashini was 71.

In last November, she was taken to hospital after she suffered a mild stroke.

Government of Bangladesh awarded her Independence Day Award in 2010.

She was the first one to publicly announce herself as Birangona, a term coined by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the rape victims of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

Priyabhashini was born on 19 February 1947 in Khulna.
