Khaleda’s bail petition : HC defers till Monday for giving order

The High Court Division on Sunday deferred to Monday the order on former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail petition.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim deferred for giving order as the case record from the lower court regarding sentence of Khaleda was not sent earlier to High Court as directed by the court.

However, the lower court records were sent to the High Court by a police van, escorted by four policemen of Lalbag police station at 1:00pm.

On February 25 the bench heard Khaleda bail petition but kept it's order pending until getting the lower court record.

On February 22, the bench asked the trial court to send the case records to it within 15 days since getting the copy of its order.

On Sunday the bench asked Khaleda lawyer Zainul Abedin to wait until Sunday since the 15-day deadline expired on today.

On Thursday Zainul sought granting of bail to the former prime minister without further waiting for the case records.

A Dhaka Special Judge’s Court on February 8 sentenced Khaleda for five years in jail in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
