US-Bangla CEO suspects wrong info given to pilots from ATC

US-Bangla Airlines chief executive officer Imran Asif suspected wrong information was provided to the pilots of the crashed Bombardier Dash 8 plane by Tribhuvan International Airport’s air traffic control and it caused the crash.

Asif said the air traffic control at Dhaka airport has confirmed that the plane landed through the wrong end of the Kathmandu airport.

‘We got a clip of conversation of pilots with ATC (Air Traffic Control)  ... If you listen to the conversation, you will understand there was a tendency of giving wrong information to the pilots from the ATC. We are investigating it,’ said Asif.

‘We are not making any allegation.  We are suspecting that there might be negligence on the part of Nepal, Kathmandu tower about giving misinformation to our pilots.  And this is why this accident took place,’ he told newsmen at the airlines office in Dhaka.

‘Pilot asked them that which (end of) runway they would use. In this three minute conversation our pilots were given different information at different times. And we think that this accident took place due to this miscommunication. The negligence was not from our part, it was from ATC Tower.  We are not telling it definitely but we are suspecting that it ATC somehow misled our pilots to land on the long runway,’ he added.
