Zafar Iqbal returns to SUST

Popular author and professor of computer science and engineering at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Muhammad Zafar Iqbal on Wednesday returned to the campus after he was released from hospital.
He was hospitalised on March 3 after a young man stabbed him.
He greeted his colleagues, students and the physicians of Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka and Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for his early recovery.
‘I can never return the love of my students. I don’t know how your love should be paid off. But, I will love you until the last day of my live,’ Zafar Iqbal said in a voice choked with emotion on his return to his campus from the CMH in Dhaka.
Zafar Iqbal was addressing a programme styled ‘Shadashidhe Kotha’ held by the university teachers and students at the amphitheatre on the campus on Wednesday afternoon.
Citing a verse from the holy Quraan, he said, ‘If you kill a human being, you kill the entire mankind.’
And those, who sent him to the hospital after rescuing him on March 3 they saved the entire mankind, Zafar Iqbal added.
Expressing his gratitude to the God, Zafar said that God saved him and He may want to have done something good by him. SUST vice-chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed, senior journalist Abed Khan and the university treasurer Elias Uddin Biswas, among others, addressed the programme.
Earlier, Zafar Iqbal was reached at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at around 12:30pm from Dhaka.
Zafar Iqbal thanked all for staying beside him and said, ‘I have no complaint against anyone. I have returned from very close to death.’
Talking to the reporters after his arrival at the Sylhet airport, Zafar Iqbal urged for step to protect the new generation from being involved with destructive activities.
‘I have no grief to the attacker, I have forgiven him. But, we have to take the step so that anymore boy does not move towards such way of cruelty,’ he said.
‘I did not know that the countrymen love me so much. The matter could be unknown to me, if I did not come under the attack,’ Zafar also said expressing his gratitude to the reporters.
His wife professor Yasmeen Huq, also head of the SUST physics department, and his daughter Yeshim Iqbal were present there at that moment.
