BNP appoints British lawyer Carlile to assist Khaleda’s cases

Bangladesh Nationalist Party has appointed British lawyer Lord Carlile for providing legal assistance to all cases against the party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir informed reporters about the appointment at a news briefing at the party central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan area on Tuesday.

He said that Carlile would extend legal assistance and advices to the legal defence team of Khaleda Zia in the legal battle.

He read out the statements of Lord Carlile accepting to deal with Khaleda’s cases.

A total of 36 cases were filed against Khaleda and she was convicted for five years in jail in Zia Orphanage Trust Graft Case on February 8.

Being asked whether Khaleda’s legal defence team was not enough to deal the cases, Fakhrul said that the appointment would enrich the team and bring the issue before international arena.
