Govt celebration ‘perverted fun’: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday termed the government’s programme to celebrate Bangladesh’s graduation from the group of Least Developed Countries as ‘perverted fun’.
Addressing a news briefing at the party’s central office in Dhaka, Rizvi said that for the celebrations, ruling party activists blocked the city roads halting public life and causing huge sufferings to the people who remained stranded in the streets for hours.
He said that the government had said it would not allow any programme that might create public sufferings, but the government itself was creating public sufferings in the name of celebrations.
Rizvi alleged that government officials and employees were ‘forced’ to participate in the political celebrations of the ruling party.
Mentioning that some online news portals were spreading ill-motivated propaganda against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and senior leaders, Rizvi said the government had formed cells to conduct such propaganda through various online portals. ‘They are publishing intelligence agency-dictated reports,’ he said.
