BGMEA Building Demolition: SC to give order March 27 on petition seeking more time
The Appellate Division on Sunday posted for March 27 for passing order on the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association’s petition seeking time for one more year to comply with its directive to demolish the illegally constructed building.
A four-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, set the date after hearing BGMEA’s petition.
The bench condemned BGMEA for seeking time repeatedly to comply with the Apex Court order for demolishing the 17-storey illegal building since June 2, 2016
The directive of the Appellate Division required the BGMEA to demolish its illegally constructed building in 90 days since June 2, 2016 at its own costs.
On Thursday, Appellate Division chamber judge, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, posted BGMEA’s petition for hearing by the full court today.
On March 5, BGMEA filed the fresh petition seeking one more year to construct its new building at Uattra.
The BGMEA petition was silent about demolishing its illegally constructed building as directed by the Appellate Division.
The Appellate Division asked the Rajuk to demolish the illegal building if the BGMEA failed to do it and realise the cost of demolition from the BGMEA.
Since March 12, 2017, the apex court, in unprecedented orders the Appellate Division extended the deadline for demolition twice, once for six months and again for seven months.
The BGMEA already missed two deadlines set by the apex court to demolish the illegal structure.
The 3rd deadline set by the Appellate Division for demolishing the illegal BGMEA structure expires on April 11.
On Sunday, Qamrul Haque Siddique with Imtiaz Moinul Islam appeared for BGMEA.
