ACC for shutting coaching centres

Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Saturday urged the government to shut illegal coaching centres saying that the coaching centres were dens of corruption.
He came up with the remarks at a rally of commission-operated school-based organisations Honesty Club at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
‘Recently the education minister said that all coaching centres were illegal. We want to add that they are not only illegal, but dens of corruption,’ he said.
He asked the teachers to ensure quality education in the classroom to avoid coaching centres.
He also urged the government to increase salary and status of the school teachers.
‘We must work together to stop question leaks and shut the coaching business forever. We cannot let our future generation just wander from coaching centre to coaching centre every day,’ he added.
On March 28, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that all kinds of coaching centres were running illegally.
He expressed his dismay that his ministry did not have the power to shut the coaching centres, although a High Court declared them unlawful.
Educationists think that coaching centres have no contribution to improving the quality of education rather they are often involved in leaking public exam question papers.
Now, there are at least one lakh coaching centres across the country, up from 70,000 five years ago, according to the Coaching Association, Bangladesh.
Worried educationists have repeatedly demanded a ban on coaching centres terming them harmful for the learners.
The commission in December 20217 sent a set of recommendations to education ministry asking it to close down the coaching centres as they were one of the potential sources of question leaks in public exams.
